One Became Two
So, I told you about the trousers I made for my friend. By the time I finished the pair she's now happily wearing, I'd actually made them three times.
You'd think by then I'd have mastered the pattern, especially considering I'd drafted the pattern myself.
Well...
With some fabric left over, I had a brilliant idea. The original request had been to make my friend a pair of trousers to match a pair her daughter already had, so I thought...
"I'll make her daughter a matching pair!"
Easy.
Well...
Not when you're me.
Over the last year, my brain function seems to have been deteriorating at an alarming rate. If you've been reading my blog from the beginning, you've probably noticed before I did!
I woke up last week wondering how on earth I've managed to function for 45 years. What I'd been told was brain fog caused by fibromyalgia, ADHD and perimenopause appears to have been code for slowly losing your marbles. I genuinely don't know what day it is half the time, what month we're in, or occasionally even what year.
Anyway... I'm rambling again.
I was actually trying to tell you about making trousers for a three-year-old.
Surely that's easier than making them for an adult after you've already sewn three pairs?
Apparently not.
Wanting the trousers to be a surprise, I decided not to ask for measurements. Instead, I asked Google.
Big mistake.

Google helped me make a lovely pair of trousers... for what can only be described as a 12-year-old with the legs of a two-year-old.
So... take two.
I bought more fabric, admitted defeat and asked for the proper measurements. While I was at it, I also bought myself an overlocker. If I'm going to keep making clothes, I may as well make them properly.
Honestly, where has this machine been all my life?
The second pair came together in no time and were hanging proudly on the coat hanger before I knew it.
Then I spotted the problem.
I'd cut the fabric the wrong way.
A proper rookie mistake.
At this point I'm beginning to think I'm destined to make everything three times before I get it right.
So, armed with yet more fabric, I'm ready for attempt number three. Hopefully this time there won't be any unexpected surprises, and later that day one became two.
I can't wait to see mother and daughter wearing their matching wide-leg trousers together.

The best part? My friend wore her trousers into town last week and people actually stopped her to ask where they'd come from.
That made every failed attempt worthwhile.
If you'd like a pair of your own, you can find them on my website.
And, perhaps most surprisingly of all...
There was absolutely no cat hair involved in the making of these trousers.
Could this be the start of a new era?
